For over 25 years, Ultra has been a global leader in the design, integration, supply and in-service support of tailored security and safety surveillance systems for the protection of offshore, oil and gas and critical national infrastructure (CNI) assets. Its advanced offshore and CNI protection system capabilities deliver enhanced maritime domain situational awareness that optimises safety, mitigates risk and ensures the protection of people and assets, even in challenging and hazardous environments.

Ultra has extensive experience operating in offshore environments and has a detailed understanding of the requirements governing the siting of sensors and equipment in hazardous areas, including Zone 1 rated long range radar and long range electro-optic systems. Its enhanced security and surveillance systems have been designed to deliver accurate, reliable and up-to-date situational awareness solutions that meet the bespoke needs of customers and operators.

Through the application of sophisticated data correlation and fusion capabilities, Ultra’s systems deliver a comprehensive, real-time picture of the operating environment by integrating high performance marine sensors including radar, electro-optics, transponders, data links and sonar across UAV, ROV and patrol vessel platforms. With actionable information, operators can identify threats and alleviate risk through initiating mitigating action that will protect lives and assets. The correlated and fused common operating picture can be shared via available communications link with onshore control centres, other platforms or with mobile assets such as platform support vessels, showing targets of interest and providing intercept information as appropriate. Through the ability to easily share detailed, accurate and up-to-date situational awareness data, threats can be identified, monitored and neutralised, keeping the offshore environment safe for all.

The Situational Awareness Management System (SAMS) software suite provides the facilities required for the integration, management and control of all aspects of security and safety surveillance in the offshore environment.  SAMS provides a scalable, modular and open, service-oriented architecture that delivers a bespoke solution tailored to the individual requirements of the customer. The system delivers a server/client based application which can accommodate as many servers and clients as required.

SAMS applies the most appropriate sensors to meet operational requirements to gather data which is then correlated, fused, analysed, displayed and recorded by the system.  Whilst radar is generally the primary above water sensor for detecting and tracking targets, SAMS has the capability to employ Automatic Identification System (AIS), high power Electro-Optics (EO) and other sensors to augment situational awareness, allowing operators to easily identify and investigate targets. In addition to surface data and information, SAMS can detect and monitor sub-surface targets using sonar as the primary sensor, delivering a complete picture of the operating environment through a single solution to optimise safety and protect people, platforms and assets.

The concept of operations of the SAMS system is focused around an access-controlled operator Human Machine Interface (HMI), delivering an intuitive and user-friendly experience combined with powerful alarm management, threat evaluation and situational awareness functionality. The system can be managed by a single operator or a team of operators, each focusing on specific sensors or particular areas or zones of responsibility. Operators can access their designated level of information in real-time, creating an efficient and detailed monitoring capability through a structured and coordinated approach.

SAMS provides situational awareness through the integration of multiple sensors and sensor sites within a Command & Control (C2) environment to deliver actionable, real-time information to decision makers at all levels.

The main functional areas of SAMS are:

  • Sensor integration, management and control
  • Radar tracker processing
  • AIS, ADS-B and other transponder tracks
  • Integration and control of electro-optic systems
  • Blue force tracking
  • Sensor track data correlation and fusion
  • Threat evaluation (video analytics, track analytics, pattern of life)
  • Data recording and replay
  • Data partitioning and user access rights
  • Data presentation
  • System configuration
  • offshore critical national infrastructure
  • System health monitoring
